Bruce Skon, MN Navy League President
November 11, 2017 @ 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM
On Veteran’s Day, November 11, Bruce Skon, Minnesota Navy League President, will explain how an aircraft carrier and a US Navy fast attack submarine names have a Minnesota reference. Skon will cover the current progress in building the USS Minneapolis St. Paul and the role of the Minnesota Navy League.
“November is our time to celebrate members of the military and their families and the sacrifice they have made in protecting the values of our country,” said MRW President Margaret Flower. “It is an honor that these valuable assets of the US Navy have been named Minnesota and Minneapolis/St. Paul.” October marked the 242 years since establishing the U.S. Navy. Navy Week brought visits of the crew members of the USS Minnesota, a fast attack submarine, to Minneapolis.
Skon has lead the Navy League in Minnesota for the past five years and is the chair of the Minneapolis St. Paul Service Commissioning Committee. Two of Skon’s three children are serving on Navy aircraft carriers, one on the east and west coast. His middle son will soon graduate from UW River Falls. His career prior to this post was in transportation and software sales for 20 years. He is a lifelong Minnesotan from Roseville and graduate of Bethel University. For the past 13 years he has lived in St. Michael where he lives with his wife.
