University of Minnesota Regent Steve Sviggum will present “How to be a Republican on today’s College Campus” at the September 16 meeting of the Metro Republican Women. The monthly breakfast meeting is held at the Mendakota Country Club.
“MRW members are very familiar with the common sense, straight talk of Steve Sviggum in his many years as a state legislator and welcome his perspective as a regent at the University of Minnesota,” said MRW President Margaret Flower. “We value colleges and universities where all opinions can be delivered and debated.”
As U of M Regent for the Second Congressional District, Steve Sviggum is a farmer and former politician who served as Communications Director for the Minnesota State Senate Majority, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, and Commissioner of the Department of Management and Budget. He also served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1979 to 2007, including eight years as Speaker of the House. Sviggum was an adjunct professor and Legislative Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He taught high school math and coached football and basketball at Belgrade-Elrosa and West Concord High Schools.
In additional to his Board of Regents position, Sviggum currently serves on the board of directors for Security State Bank of Kenyon.
